BEADED TABLE MAT – DOUBLE STAR DESIGN

Beaded Tablemat comes in various designs, sizes, colours, and shape. They add colour and exquisite ambiance to home decor. This tutorial is for the green and white double star design.

MATERIALS/TOOLS

*2 colours of size 8 beads- half pack each *Fishing line- Size 0.60mm *Scissors or cutter

BEADED TABLEMAT INTRODUCTION

We will refer to the beads as (A) and (B). You will need to use both hands. The fishing line on your right hand will be regarded as RH while the left hand will be LH.

START

Cut a reasonable length of fishing line that you can comfortably work with.

Drop beads – 6A crossing with the 6^th bead to form a ring. Push beads to the centre of line.

► Step 1- On RH add 5A and cross the last bead with LH
► Step 2-Insert LH to next bead from the ring. On RH add 4A and cross the last bead with LH. Repeat this step three more times.
► Step 3- Insert LH to next 2 beads (1 from the ring and 1 from circle formed in step 1). On RH add 3A and cross the last bead with LH.

Row 2 completed and the shape of your work should be a small hexagon.

► Step 1- Insert LH to next bead. On RH add 4A and cross the last bead with LH. Repeat one more time.
► Step 2-Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3A and cross the last bead with LH.
► Step 3- Insert LH to next bead. On RH add 4A and cross the last bead with LH.
► Step 4 – Repeat step 2 and step 3 three more times.
► Step 5- Step 3 to be repeated once
► Step 6 – Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3A and cross the last bead with LH.

► Step 1- Insert LH to next bead. On RH add 4B and cross the last bead with LH
► Step 2- Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3A and cross the last bead with LH
► Step 3-Insert LH to next bead. On RH add 4A and cross the last bead with LH.
► Step 4- Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3A and cross the last bead with LH. Repeat this step one more time.
► Step 5- Repeat steps 3 and 4 – four more times.
► Step 6- Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3A and cross the last bead with LH.

► Step 4- Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3A and cross the last bead with LH. Repeat this step two more times.
► Step 5- Repeat steps 3 and 4 – four more times.
► Step 6- Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3B and cross the last bead with LH.

► Step 4- Insert LH to next bead. On RH add 4B and cross the last bead with LH.
► Step 5- Insert LH to next two beads. On RH add 2B + 1A and cross the last bead with LH.
► Step 6- Repeat steps 2,3, 4 and 5 – four more times.
► Step 7- Repeat steps 2 and 3
► Step 8 – Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3B and cross the last bead with LH.

► Step 2- Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3A and cross the last bead with LH. Repeat once.
► Step 3- Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 2A + 1B and cross the last bead with LH.
► Step 4- Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3B and cross the last bead with LH.
► Step 5- Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3A and cross the last bead with LH. Repeat this step thrice.
► Step 6 – Insert LH to next bead. On RH add 4A and cross the last bead with LH.
► Step 7 – Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3A and cross the last bead with LH. Repeat this step twice.
► Step 8 – Repeat steps 3 to 7 – four more times.

► Step 3- Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 2A + 1B and cross the last bead with LH.
► Step 4- Insert LH to next 2 beads. On RH add 3A and cross the last bead with LH. Repeat this step five times more.
► Step 5 – Repeat steps 1 to 4 – five more times.

Row 12 completed.

This is the final row. Weave some of the excess fishing line into your work and cut off the excess.

Note: You will need to be adding fishing line as your work progresses. Tie with a neat knot and weave the rest into your work.

COMMENT

This pattern can be made into a smaller or bigger tablemat. The midpoint for the star will always be a circle wider than the circles below and above it. The midpoint for this pattern is row 5. The steps in row 5 is what you need to commence the midpoint row for the first star. It prepares your work for the decrease and change of patterns of subsequent rows.

Using a smaller size of beads will result in a smaller table mat. Observations or suggestions are welcomed!
